What our homeschool looks like- Winter 2022-23

If you’ve been around here long, you know that I say that sharing what curriculum we are using in OUR homeschool is not always the most helpful thing for YOUR homeschool, however, I know that seeing what a day can look like for another family does provide value for you as you’re sorting out stewarding your homeschool.

Stewarding means: to look after and make decisions about ________. God has given you an awesome instinct to discern what your family needs and to steward them well, lean into that with peace.

Here is a peek at what the rhythm of a day at home looks like in this season as well as some links to curriculum:

+ Breakfast- Pancake Mondays have been a hit

+ Get ready for the day

+ Character cards from September + Co.

+ Read aloud- we have been working through “The Long Winter” by Laura Ingalls Wilder—tip: get the audiobook from your library so you can listen in the car.

+ Math- We print out the free Math curriculum by The Good And The Beautiful

+ Outside time- most day the boys will play outside while I work for a bit or prep for dinner, depending on the day

+ Back together for a group subject- We are moving through History, Writing workshops + Science currently. I don’t follow an official loop schedule for these subjects, I just swap around what we are doing based on our appointments and open time that week. We are using Gather Round homeschool for history, The Good And The Beautiful Space Science and Read Aloud Revival Premium for Writing and so much more honestly.

+ Lots of free time for independent reading

Homeschooling during the winter can be so hard when you live in a cold climate, but with a little bit of flexibility and freedom, you can thrive in winter too. :)
