Three words for your homeschool year

It’s tempting to look at an entire year of educating your kids + feel completely overwhelmed with the amount of work involved. All you are able to see is a giant mountain standing in front of you. You feel the weight of the responsibility, the fear of messing it up and probably a little confusion on what is right for your family and your kids individually. (ask me how I know…) When you look at a whole year and see a big, daunting mountain, it feels nearly impossible to climb over it.

Here’s your infusion of hope, the secret is that you have to take one small step at a time, and tell yourself the truth, you don’t have to climb the mountain in one day. That truth is good news, right?

The problem isn’t the mountain, it’s that you don’t have clarity on what the next right step is so you can start climbing that mountain. You have to break down each step to gain clarity + perspective.

One practice you can implement to bring peace to your homeschool is to choose 1-3 words that set the vision for the year.

Write each word down and do a thought download about how you can use each word to guide your homeschool this year. A thought download is just getting all of the thoughts floating around in your brain down on paper. Narrowing down to those three words will help you to name what matters like I talked about in this post.

Next, ask yourself three questions:

  1. What do I want my child to say about their homeschool experience 20 years from now?

  2. What do I hope my child will say about me as a homeschooling Mama?

  3. What is one thing I can choose to do today, that will bring me one step closer to my vision?

This heart work often feels like you’re not getting anything done, however, choosing to take some time to prep your heart before you dive in to curriculum choices is SO worth the work. Once you have done the heart work, you are able to filter your curriculum choices through your three words and answers to the three questions, with confidence. You will gain SO MUCH clarity + peace!
